The purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with the ability to identify and solve fundamental labour law disputes and recognise and appraise the importance and functioning of equity legislation in the employment relationship; evaluate the importance of freedom of association in South African labour law and recognise and assess the regulation of collective labour relations in South Africa. Enforce the rights and obligations of the individual employment relationship and indicate and evaluate the relevant dispute routes and procedures for labour law dispute resolution. Identify and analyse relevant social security provisions relating to the employment relationship. The qualification is aimed at providing practical-orientated training in labour law to people in the legal profession, the business world, trade unions and the public sector.

The purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying learners with the ability to apply the relevant legislation in assessing the computation of taxable income and identify other taxable benefits which are accrued. The learner will be further equipped to define and analyse the nature and various forms from which an income can be derived and the legislative implications of simulated transactions as well as the conjunct anti-avoidance provisions as found in the Income Tax Act, Act 58 of 1962. An added purpose of the qualification is to develop qualified learners' intellectual and theoretical competencies at an advanced level, and to strengthen their ability to understand income and value-added tax laws from the viewpoint of knowledge of and a critical analysis of the substantive law.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop the qualifying learners’’ theoretical competency and to provide them with the ability to apply the relevant legislation in analysing and comparing the various tax systems and the application thereof from a jurisdictive perspective. The purpose, furthermore, provides qualified learners with advanced knowledge and understanding of international tax law from the viewpoint of knowledge of and a critical analysis of the substantive law.

The purpose of the Higher Certificate in Local Economic Development (LED) is to prepare students for a career in LED. This programme will develop theoretical knowledge and practical competency and skills on NQF 5 in LED to enable students in their working environment. It further prepares students who do not comply with the minimum statutory or institutional admission requirements to access Diploma and/or Degree studies, or students who want to explore various career path options relating to LED. At the end of the programme, students will be able to understand and apply basic LED principles, make decisions in the LED context, interpret relevant information, and effectively work with various role players in the LED profession.

Developing competencies for local government officials aspiring to managerial positions.

This programme equips learners to work in law firms, advisory offices or the Department of Justice. Through the exposure of students to basic principles of law they can play an important role in ensuring that justice is made accessible to the majority of people living in rural and under-developed areas of our country. The intended purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying students with the ability to apply the common law to resolving disputes and to recognise and appraise the importance and functioning of the legal remedies as a pre-emotive prevention of and safeguard to legal disputes and enforcing the rights of an aggrieved party. To further recognise the interrelated legal facets when drafting a contract and utilise same as a decisive and efficient tool in enforcing rights and obligations in the event of a dispute and prior to the litigation.
