This programme equips learners to work in law firms, advisory offices or the Department of Justice. Through the exposure of students to basic principles of law they can play an important role in ensuring that justice is made accessible to the majority of people living in rural and under-developed areas of our country. The intended purpose of this qualification is to provide qualifying students with the ability to apply the common law to resolving disputes and to recognise and appraise the importance and functioning of the legal remedies as a pre-emotive prevention of and safeguard to legal disputes and enforcing the rights of an aggrieved party. To further recognise the interrelated legal facets when drafting a contract and utilise same as a decisive and efficient tool in enforcing rights and obligations in the event of a dispute and prior to the litigation.
The purpose of the programme is to qualify health professionals who, upon completion, will be empowered to analyse, strategise, and offer solutions to environmental and occupational health threats and risks faced by sub-Saharan African countries, including South Africa. Outcomes include: (1) Contextualising public health within the region and relevant countries’ health systems, focusing on environmental and occupational health; (2) Conducting health risk assessments and managing these risks; (3) Developing relevant epidemiology and research methodologies for local and regional environmental and occupational health risks; (4) Understanding related health economies; (5) Unpacking environmental and occupational disasters locally and regionally as learning opportunities in primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention; (6) Taking strategic decisions within the context of environmental and occupational health domains.
The purpose of this MEd in Educational Management programme is to enable students to develop the professional skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for competent school leaders and managers. Students will develop intellectual, theoretical and disciplinary knowledge of and insight into theories, concepts, and practices in educational leadership and management. The programme is aimed at emerging and practising educational leaders/managers in schools or administrative positions, and it focuses on the professionalisation of educational leadership and management practice, building capacity in educational management research, and preparing students for further postgraduate research.
