About the Programme

Description:

The purpose of the programme is to qualify health professionals who, upon completion, will be empowered to analyse, strategise, and offer solutions to environmental and occupational health threats and risks faced by sub-Saharan African countries, including South Africa. Outcomes include: (1) Contextualising public health within the region and relevant countries’ health systems, focusing on environmental and occupational health; (2) Conducting health risk assessments and managing these risks; (3) Developing relevant epidemiology and research methodologies for local and regional environmental and occupational health risks; (4) Understanding related health economies; (5) Unpacking environmental and occupational disasters locally and regionally as learning opportunities in primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention; (6) Taking strategic decisions within the context of environmental and occupational health domains.

Admission Requirements:

• Three to five years’ experience in the health sector, including management positions, research and/or project management • Health-related qualification at NQF level 8 (e.g. Environmental Health, MBChB, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Nursing) or equivalent • Applicants with equivalent qualifications will be considered by a constituted status committee (submit a detailed CV and motivation letter) • Average of 65% on the highest qualification (attach academic transcript) • A minimum of three years’ work experience in Environmental Health and Occupational Health and Safety
